SMS Mill Services, LLC ("SMS") is a leading provider of outsourced services to the global steel industry. SMS delivers a comprehensive range of specialized services to its steel mill customers and operates as an integrated extension of the customers' mill operations.
Reporting to the Regional Operations Director, this leadership role is responsible for overseeing SMS operations at the Cleveland-Cliffs Burns Harbor facility in Indiana. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership position which requires the ability to successfully execute annual operating objectives while driving operational excellence. The ideal leader will effectively balance strategic thinking with operational execution, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, employee engagement, continuous improvement and high performance.

Responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the Burns Harbor operation, ensuring alignment with company objectives, customer expectations, and operational goals.
- Champion a safety-first culture and maintain accountability for all environmental, health, safety, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Maintain full responsibility for the site's financial performance, including profit and loss management, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and achievement of financial targets.
- Develop and execute strategic and operational plans that drive business growth, operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and long-term sustainability.
- Lead, develop, and mentor a team of salaried and unionized hourly employees, fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, teamwork, and high performance.
- Partner with mill leadership to identify opportunities to improve service delivery, productivity, efficiency, and overall customer value.
- Drive operational performance through the establishment and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring achievement of safety, quality, productivity, and financial objectives.
- Provide leadership in labor relations matters, including contract administration, employee relations, workforce planning, and conflict resolution.
- Ensure effective utilization of personnel, equipment, and resources to maximize operational efficiency and profitability.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, promoting innovation, process optimization, and a culture of operational excellence.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable company policies, customer requirements, legal regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Management, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in heavy industrial, steel, manufacturing, mining, logistics, or related environments.
- Demonstrated success managing large-scale operations with full P&L accountability.
- Experience leading unionized workforces and administering collective bargaining agreements.
- Proven ability to drive safety, operational performance, customer satisfaction, and financial results.
- Strong strategic planning, leadership, change management, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced industrial environment.
